The feeder bay — protection and control in one device

Outgoing feeder bays are the most common application class in MV and LV switchgear. The protection device must cover phase overcurrent (50/51), earth-fault (50N/51N or 50G/51G depending on neutral treatment), directional functions for ring or radial networks (67/67N), breaker control with interlocking, and integration into the higher-level system through IEC 61850 GOOSE or IEC 60870-5-104 SCADA.

SYMAP^® Y-F is the dedicated feeder variant in the classic series. SYMAP^® Compact+ (+F1, +F2, +F3) is the Protection & Control IED for compact feeder bays with integrated switchgear control, interlocking and EBS-extended I/O.

Typical applications

Radial MV feeders

Industrial and urban distribution feeders. IDMT and definite-time overcurrent, earth-fault, breaker control with interlocking against incoming and bus-tie bays.

Ring MV feeders

Closed-ring or open-ring distribution networks. Directional overcurrent (67/67N) for selectivity, fault-passage indication, IEC 61850 GOOSE for inter-bay communication.

Compensated/isolated neutral networks

Earth-fault detection in resonant-grounded and isolated networks. Directional earth-fault (67N, 67G), sensitive Ig measurement through Holmgreen or core-balance CT.

Marine and offshore feeders

Auxiliary distribution feeders on vessels and platforms. Class society approvals from LR, ABS, DNV, BV, CCS, PRS, NK, RINA, KR. Cyber security per IACS UR E27.

Industrial process feeders

Process plant outgoing bays feeding motors, transformers and sub-distribution. Coordinated selectivity, arc-flash protection, DCS/SCADA integration.

Compact switchgear bays

Modular MV switchgear bays with limited panel space. SYMAP^® Compact+ with integrated breaker control and EBS modules for extended I/O.

Compact+ or classic SYMAP^®?

Classic SYMAP^® Y-F covers most feeder applications through the Y/BC device type. SYMAP^® Compact+ (+F1/+F2/+F3) is the right choice for compact feeder bays where the same device must provide switchgear control, interlocking and extended I/O through EBS modules, a Protection & Control IED for a single bay.
