The retrofit story — without the retrofit pain


HIMAP relays were built into thousands of vessels and substations between the late 1990s and 2016. They served their purpose well — but they are now end of life. Finding spare parts is hard, finding engineers who know the firmware is harder, and modern cyber security and communication standards have moved on.

The traditional retrofit answer is invasive: cut the panel, rewire the CT/VT, re-engineer the protection coordination, and book a long docking window. Owners postpone it, and the fleet keeps running on aging hardware until something fails.

SYMAP® R changes that calculation. It is engineered as a 1:1 plug-in replacement for HIMAP — same connector layout, same panel cutout, same wiring. Slide out the old, slide in the new. Parameter settings can be transferred from the former device. The whole job fits in a single docking window or even a port call.

SYMAP® R fits the same rectangular cut-out as HIMAP, with identical mechanical mounting and connectors. The polycarbonate cover protects the front panel from mechanical damage during service and while the cabinet is open.

Parameter transfer from the legacy HIMAP

Existing protection settings, timing, interlocking and communication parameters from the HIMAP relay are transferred to SYMAP® R through engineering conversion, so the plant behaves identically after the retrofit.

Class society re-certification

Type approvals from LR, ABS, DNV, BV, CCS, PRS, NK, RINA and KR are not put at risk — SYMAP® R carries the same approvals as the classic SYMAP series on new builds.

How to order

SYMAP®R is a retrofit solution supplied and configured exclusively from the Head Office of stuckeGROUP, Hamburg. Each retrofit requires verification of compatibility with the original HIMAP device and the existing wiring, which is performed by the service and engineering team in Hamburg.

Identify the existing device

HIMAP device type, operating diagram, parameter file (if available), vessel type and IMO number, photographs of the existing installation.

Technical verification

The Hamburg service team verifies SYMAP®R variant compatibility with your configuration and existing wiring.

Order code generation

The exact part number of the SYMAP®R retrofit module is generated according to the confirmed original HIMAP configuration.

Quotation

A formal quotation is issued from Hamburg with delivery time, commissioning plan and technical documentation.
