Protection for distribution feeders and transformers
For MV/LV distribution networks SYMAP® solutions cover protection and control of feeder cells, transformer cells, connection cells, cable and line connections, and integration with SCADA/DMS systems. Typical functions include overcurrent, earth-fault, directional, voltage/frequency, distance and line-differential protection, together with measurement circuit, trip circuit, breaker, communication and event supervision in the network.
SYMAP® Compact+ is considered as a compact Protection & Control IED for individual MV/LV cells, particularly when protection, breaker control, metering, signalling, interlocking, communication and local logic are required in a single device. The classic SYMAP® series is considered for more complex distribution and system applications, standardization of a larger number of cells, retrofit projects, existing SYMAP® / HIMAP architectures, or when dedicated application variants are required for feeder, transformer, distance or line-differential protection.
Note: Compact+ F1/F2/F3/F4 should not be interpreted as direct equivalents of the classic SYMAP® F/M/T/G variants. The Compact+ variant is selected according to measurement inputs, CT/VT configuration, I/O, communication and Order Code options. The classic SYMAP® series is selected according to the application and system architecture.
Which SYMAP® for this application?
For individual MV/LV distribution cells, SYMAP® Compact+ is most often considered, because it combines protection, control, metering, interlocking, signalling and communication in a single IED. Compact+ F1/F2/F3/F4 variants are selected according to CT/VT measurements, network earth-fault regime, the required Ug/3×U measurement, number of voltage systems, I/O signals, communication and Order Code options. The classic SYMAP® series is considered for more complex distribution and system applications, retrofit projects, standardization of a larger number of cells, or where dedicated variants such as F, T, D, LD, DC or ARC are required. D and LD are meaningful here, because distribution networks may include lines, cable connections and protection zones that require distance 21 or line differential 87L protection.
