Alternator Protection · Diesel Control Unit · Power Management
Past product with active 24/7 support, spare parts and certified retrofit path to the SYMAP® series.
SYNPOL®D is a stuckeGROUP product launched in 1994, primarily sold through the global network of ABB. More than 5,000 units have been installed on various types of vessels. The device combines alternator protection, a Diesel Control Unit and a Power Management system for low and medium voltage systems.
SYNPOL®D is a compact device for the protection and control of generators and diesel engines, with an integrated Power Management system that includes automatic connection of large consumers and control of the complete plant mains system. Its modular structure ensures that a central control unit does not influence the system: one SYNPOL®D device is assigned to each generator panel, all panels are identically constructed, and the devices communicate over a two-wire CAN bus. In case of the failure of one device, the others will continue operating.
Although SYNPOL®D is classified as a past product, stuckeGROUP continues to provide active 24/7 lifecycle support: spare parts, repair services, complete replacement of all units and cables without modifications, and a certified retrofit migration path to the new SYMAP® series.

SYNPOL®D offers communication over RS422/RS485 using the Modbus protocol in accordance with the „Gould Modbus protocol“ reference guide PI-MBUS-300 Rev. B.
The protocol controls the query and response cycle between master and slave devices, supporting one master and up to 247 slaves on a common line. SYNPOL®D operates as a slave and covers functions 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8 of the Modbus protocol. Additionally, a two-wire CAN bus connects multiple SYNPOL®D devices in a multi-master architecture; optionally, a PC monitor system can be connected.
Service, repairs, spare parts, retrofit quotations and technical support are managed exclusively from the Head Office of stuckeGROUP, Hamburg, Germany.

The SYNPOL®D 2026-04 brochure and the "Discontinued products" program define two standardized options for existing SYNPOL®D installations: migration to the next generation of the SYMAP® series, or upgrade to a new SYNPOL®D with a redesigned front panel.
Standardized retrofit programs enable migration to the next generation of protection, control and Power Management through SYMAP® BC/BCG (introduced 2003) and the SYMAP® Y series (introduced 2005), with equivalent functions for low and medium voltage systems. The specific variant is selected according to the device function in the system, measurement inputs, display and I/O configuration.
As an alternative to migration, the upgrade to a new SYNPOL®D with a redesigned front panel and stuckeGROUP logo is available. This option provides complete replacement of units and cables without modifications to the existing installation, with parameter transfer from the old device to the new one.
What does retrofit include?
The retrofit includes complete replacement of all units and cables without modifications to the existing installation, a new front panel design with the stuckeGROUP logo, download of parameter settings from the old device and upload to the new one, 5 years of warranty, and global onboard service. Beyond the SYNPOL®D program, existing HIMAP, SYNPOL® and DICON installations have equivalent retrofit programs to the current SYMAP® series.
stuckeGROUP protects your investment through active life-cycle support and obsolescence management.
Beyond the SYNPOL®D program, stuckeGROUP continues to provide service and support for other past generations — SYNPOL®, DICON and HIMAP. Equivalent retrofit programs are available for migration of existing installations to the current SYMAP® series.
Note: service for past generations and the SYMAP® R plug-in HIMAP retrofit program are managed exclusively from the Head Office of stuckeGROUP, Hamburg. Contact: support@stuckegroup.de.
