Protection, control and management for diesel and gas gensets

For diesel and gas gensets, SYMAP® solutions cover protection and control of low and medium voltage genset installations, from individual units and local backup systems, through complex multi-genset systems with transformers, bus-tie logic and Power Management functions, up to larger genset power plant configurations with communication to the supervisory system.

For the grid connection of a single LV or MV genset, a connection cell or a grid interface with Grid Code requirements, SYMAP® Compact+ GC is considered as the protection, metering and control layer on the AC interface and PCC. For larger genset systems the configuration is extended according to the number of gensets, transformers, feeder cells, auxiliary drives, DC supplies, bus-tie logic and communication requirements.

For multiple gensets in parallel operation, load sharing, island mode, automatic load shedding, blackout recovery and coordination of generator groups, the corresponding SYMAP® BCG/ECG variants are considered for Power Management.

Note: Compact+ F1/F2/F3/F4 should not be interpreted as direct equivalents of the classic SYMAP® F/M/T/G variants. The Compact+ variant is selected according to measurement inputs, CT/VT configuration, I/O, communication and Order Code options. The classic SYMAP® series is selected according to the application and system architecture.

Which SYMAP® for this application?

For a single LV or MV genset, a connection cell or a grid interface with Grid Code requirements (EZA/EZE, NA protection, synchronization), SYMAP® Compact+ GC is considered as the protection, metering and control layer on the AC interface and PCC. For larger genset systems the configuration is extended according to the number of gensets, transformers, feeder cells, auxiliary drives, DC supplies, bus-tie logic and communication requirements. For multiple gensets in parallel operation, load sharing, island mode, automatic load shedding, blackout recovery and coordination of generator groups, the SYMAP® G / BCG / ECG variants are considered. Compact+ F1/F2/F3/F4 are selected according to the measurement inputs and function of the individual cell, while the classic SYMAP® T/F/M/DC/ARC variants are considered according to the application and system architecture. SYMAP® D / LD are not listed as a general genset function, but only where a connection line or critical cable/line connection requires distance 21 or line differential 87L protection.
