Generator protection and grid-decoupling for combined heat and power plants

For CHP plants, SYMAP® solutions cover generator unit protection and control, grid decoupling, synchronization, voltage and frequency monitoring, transformer protection, feeder and connection cell protection, communication with the supervisory system and event/fault recording.

For the grid connection of a CHP genset or smaller CHP plant with Grid Code requirements, SYMAP® Compact+ GC is considered as the protection, metering and control layer on the AC interface and PCC. For plants with multiple gensets, parallel operation, load sharing, island operation, automatic load shedding or bus-tie logic, the corresponding SYMAP® BCG/ECG variants are considered for Power Management and generator group coordination.

Which SYMAP® for this application?

For the grid connection of a CHP genset or smaller CHP plant with Grid Code requirements, SYMAP® Compact+ GC is considered as the protection, metering and control layer on the AC interface and PCC. For larger CHP systems, the configuration is extended according to the number of gensets, transformers, feeder cells, auxiliary drives, DC supplies and communication requirements. For multiple gensets in parallel operation, load sharing, island operation, automatic load shedding and bus-tie logic, the SYMAP® BCG/ECG variants are considered. Compact+ F1/F2/F3/F4 are selected according to the measurement inputs and function of the individual cell, while the classic SYMAP® G/F/T/M/DC/ARC variants are considered according to the application and system architecture.
